Artist Oils

Occhuzzie is dedicated to providing artists with rare and unique oil paints that most other oil companies choose not to manufacture. Yet these products are still sought after by many. Due to our focus on these products we have seen our artist oils grow in popularity as a "specialty" paint line among artists.

Some of the oil paints that make Occhuzzie's name so notable is our Pure Lead (PW1) White products; Flake White, Flake White Stiff and "Old Master" lead white know as Flemish White. Lead White paints are noted for having excellent tonal characteristics and produce very durable paint films. We know there is NO replacing these traditional products and pride ourselves as one of the few manufacturers still willing to produce these colors in their purest form.

Occhuzzie's Flemish White is based on a leas recipe dating back to the 15-17th centuries during the Northern Renaissance Dutch Painters. Known for its full body, very tacky and long ropy qualities. Its like working with, melted string cheese, yet once mastered can add exquisite detail to the finish layers of paintings.

Occhuzzie is also gaining a name for broadening the painters palette by creating nontraditional paints like our Charcoal and Graphite. Both are most useful as under drawings for artists. Its where drawing meets painting in a sense. Thinned down they can be used for gestural drawings or as a wash. For a traditional grisialle, painters can use them in their ground work on paintings. In regard to the Graphite, depending on the amount of white added, you can create a wide range of value shades like a pencil set from 7B to 7H.

As for the entire oil paint line, you can expect creamy paint that is rich in color. We do so by running smaller paint batches so that we can focus on the consistency of each color. If the paint does not meet my high standards, it will be remilled until it looks and feels the way I like it.

We are a small family business that has a tremendous amount of passion and character. Other then our three machines; the mixer, three roll mill and piston filler, everything is made by hand. Its hand measured, hand weighed, hand milled, hand tubed, hand crimped and the labels are hand written. Each label is put on the tubes individually and hand packed. Now that's quality!
